I had purchsed the iphone 4 from Houston.

I travelled to India after that & would like to unlock the device.

The device is registered with apple etc.

I have also upgraded to iOS5 officially.

I tried to unlock using the apple support.

They show that the device has been unlocked but I did not get any kind of confirmation in iTunes?

It tells me to verify whether you have updated your records.

serial no. of the device is---- {edited}

You need to purchase a factory unlocked device directly from Apple at full retail price. AT&T does not unlock any Apple phone.
