Extremely Slow Speed When Connected Via VPN

I am using AT&T Global Network Client to connect to my office network from home. I have a 75mbps unlimited connection which shows about 70mbps download and 10mbps upload speed without VPN. However, as soon as connect to VPN the speed drops down to kilobytes.

My IT department suggested

1. updating the AT&T Client to new version

2. connecting directly to my modem via ethernet

3. updating my network card driver

4. speaking to my operator if they are blocking any protocol

All these have been addressed but still the same issue. Is there anything else I could do to improve my connection speed?
