Unable to d/l ap directory followed by other problems

by kevinjf » Fri Apr 30, 2010 8:54 am

A little over a month ago I got a new Lenovo T400 along with the 7.6.3.3012 client. Since that time I have been unable to download the access-point directory. I've tried uninstalling/reinstalling, deleting the directories, disabling my firewall client and using the latest 8.xx client. In all cases the download starts and then fails a bit later. I've also tried the download from wireless, wired and from within our corporate network. All of them fail at about the same time into the download.

So, that is one problem, however the biggest problem happens after the download fails. After it fails I end up with BSOD's of various sorts, total machine lockups or various error messages such as TCP/IP stack full messages. In all cases, once the a-p download attempt fails I need to reboot my machine. These events were also happening when I hadn't attempted to download through the client but I then found out that the download attempt was happening automatically even when the client wasn't running. It seemed to happen abuot 10-15 minutes after my machine was rebooted.

So, now I need to bring up the client, start the software update but then leave the software update download prompt up. In other words, I do not click on the 'Download checked items...' box. Before I did that my machine was being rebooted about 5-10 times a day. With that prompt left up (even across VPN disconnects/reconnects) I have been able to go a week without an unexpected reboot. So, I've pretty much confirmed that the download failure is somehow causing my machine to be very unstable.

Here's a list of the blue screen's that happened before I found the workaround:
Crash Time Bug Check String Bug Check Code Parameter 1 Parameter 2 Parameter 3 Parameter 4 Caused By Driver Caused By Address
4/23/2010 10:32:17 AM DRIVER_CORRUPTED_EXPOOL 0x100000c5 0x0000042a 0x00000002 0x00000000 0x8055196d ntoskrnl.exe ntoskrnl.exe+7a96d
4/22/2010 10:38:11 AM KERNEL_MODE_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED 0x1000008e 0xc0000006 0xbf806720 0xa5b43b38 0x00000000 win32k.sys win32k.sys+6720
4/15/2010 5:34:38 PM KERNEL_DATA_INPAGE_ERROR 0x0000007a 0xe2fe1924 0xc000009a 0xbf911f30 0x0efcb860 win32k.sys win32k.sys+111f30

What steps do I need to take to diagnose why these problems are happening? It seems to me that my second problem is more serious so I'd like to focus on that one first.

Kevin.
