Phone return scam

On Sept 29th my wife and I brought our old IPhone 13 to the AT&T store in Linwood plaza in Fort Lee. We thought they had to be returned there for the trade in of our new iPhone 15. We were told they had to be mailed in. We are on survalence  camera at the store packing, sealing and labeling the box. Two weeks later we received old flip phones in the mail saying wrong item returned. We called the number on the paper that said return the AT&T equipment or be billed the balance. We called and got the IEMEI # . The rep started a fraud claim and had us fill out a fraud claim sheet. I was notified that this was not wireless fraud via email last night.

I found on numerous sites that AT&t has pulled this scam on many people.

WE ARE ON RECORDED CAMERA SEALING THE PHONES AND LABELING THE BOX THIS IS PURE THEFT AND A SCAM BY AT&T

if we are billed I will file complaints with the FCC, BBB, and take legal action against AT&T, FIRSTNET, and AT&T Linwood plaza if these recordings disappear or are not found 

we may be contacted after 7:30 PM eastern time

Scammed on this end too and they are horrendous to deal with. Returned us a broken part of a different phone. The wrap my husband spoke to tell them they know this is a scam from the third-party they used to collect the phones, but they do nothing about it. Now they’re billing us $500 for a phone.  Insane!!!

I kept getting this wanting to help check your direct message thing to. Funny thing is I only got the email notification that they replied to this thread. After giving them all the info in the direct message they “replied” but I never received a notification. I checked a week after and see my case was shut down. After I complained again they called me let it ring once and hung up they left a message but when I called back no one answer now the case was closed again and both my wife and I a being charged for phones we don’t have…. Even though we have the lost / damaged phone insurance
