Why is my yahoo mail being redirected to att.com?

My yahoo account was hacked.  I can't do the 'forgot password routine at yahoo because it redirects to ATT, where ATT says my yahoo email address can't be helped because it is a yahoo account and not an AT&T account.

How can I drop this redirect?  We have no AT&T services and this yahoo account was never associated with any AT&T service

Hello @Bryon6

Thank you for your message.  Here is a helpful link to reset your yahoo password: http://soc.att.com/2o9OvIo

Please let me know if that works for you.

Thank you.

That link leads to a yahoo.com 'how to reset your password'

On that page I click the yahoo sign in helper, then I'm at the same yahoo page showing 'let's get you back into your account'... I enter my yahoo.com email address, and it redirects immediately to 'myATT', their password reset page

I enter my yahoo.com email on that page, and it is the same as before, no help for yahoo accounts, not supported

Your link is a shortcut to the yahoo.com password reset page I have the original problem on

I came back here one last time in hopes to help some future generation with a possible fix

as we all know, yahoo blames att, and att blames yahoo - they're both too big to really care to find a solution so forget them

the reset password redirect isn't going to fix itself, but i may have found a way to trick it into working (assuming you're trying to get into your @yahoo.com address)

install firefox

open a new PRIVATE TAB (this ensures no stored cookies are used, and no cookies are kept)

in the private tab, go to the main yahoo mail login page and just hit reset password

for your email address, ONLY enter what is before the @ sign.  so "yourname@yahoo.com" would be entered as just "yourname"

then the process will let you finish without the att redirect, and you can reset your password

take it a step further and get rid of both of these companies:

set up a new email account in OUTLOOK on your COMPUTER, for your yahoo account using these settings:

mail type:  imap

incoming server:  android.imap.mail.yahoo.com  (i know this is a computer but it's the only way free yahoo accounts can outlook)

outgoing server:  android.smtp.mail.yahoo.com

advanced settings:

- outgoing server requires authentication

- outgoing server requires SSL on port 465

- incoming server requires SSL on port 993

let outlook download all your mail

then copy or export it elsewhere, even to an outlook PST file

then go delete your yahoo account, or go into the yahoo webmail account settings and forward everything to some other account like gmail, and be done with it

I am having the same issue currently.... even when I download firefox and follow your recommendations it loops to AT&T page.  IT actually loops there directly when I enter in my yahoo ID from the Yahoo page and hit Next.  It doesn't even prompt me for a password or ask me to click Forgot password.....  I've cleared all cookies and everything.

When I enter my yahoo.com ID into the AT&T page it redirects me to it says:

Hmmm. We've searched our records and can't find the User ID and last name combination you entered. Check your entries, and try again.

I forgot my User ID

Any new or updated advice?   I'm going crazy being bounced from AT&T and Yahoo.  NO one seems to be interested in actually helping 😞

Yes - I actually figured it out independently.... it WAS associated with a very old prodigy.net account.  Once I finally got  access to that email, then I went to start.att.net and was able to log into my yahoo.com account using the same password for my prodigy.net account.  WARNING - ALL of the people I spoke with on the phone (managers included) swore that it was not associated with my old prodigy account and were of absolutely NO help.  I literally spent over 5 hours on the phone with them.  BY FAR - the online chat agents with AT&T were THE MOST helpful!  They assisted me with getting access to my old account and resetting my password within minutes.  The AT&T employees on this forum did email me and assist with forwarding on my issue to someone.  They contacted me a week later and left a message stating: I received your escalated request/issue will forward this on to our team, but "like you were already told it is a yahoo account and we don't do anything with those accounts so we might not be able to do anything".  He did not leave a call back number and called from a blocked line.... otherwise I would have called him back and told him I had already corrected the issue.  However, he called me back 5 days later and told me "after researching your problem, your yahoo account is associated with an old prodigy.net account".  I chuckled and explained that I already knew that and suggested he educate his customer service team to this issue.  He did apologize and said he would look into all of the calls and inform the people who I spoke with of the link and how to watch for that with other customers.   Hope this helps you.......  it was a nightmare for me..... but it's behind me now 🙂

It is 11/2018 and this issue STILL has not been resolved! I totally agree Bryon6. My email account was compromised. I spent numerous days and hours on technical support (which is a complete joke) only to be told that they are level one tier support and can do nothing more than help the user experiment with different browsers, clear cache, and at the most, send a temp password. The problem for me is not that I can't change the password. The problem is once I have recreated a new one, I am consistently redirected to the same FORGOT USERNAME / PASSWORD page. This happens when I try to login to email at the following locations:

att.net

yahoo.com

This issue is embarrassing for AT&T. They assume no culpability or responsibility in bad coding / process flow. Ridiculous (and foreign) customer support. You should be ashamed of yourself! I even sent several emails to the abuse. att.net division. Guess what? No response!

Did you ever get a resolution to this? I  have spent up to 6 days on the phone with AT&T and after they all tell me to do the same thing they say that Yahoo is experiencing problems and to try back in 12 hours--6 days in a row?

Same exact problem. Since Tuesday this week.  The only change I made was on Monday I chose the "use Account Key" and received the green checkmark or red X sent from the yahoomail app on my phone.  The next day, it suddenly said "your account is not set up for account key" while trying to log into a new device and I completely lost the ability to log into my sbcglobal.net account. As soon as I try (either from yahoo or from att.net) I can put the user name in, but can't enter the password (that I changed 3 times on the advice from "customer service") last time being Tuesday morning and was told to wait 24 hours for Yahoo to recognize my new password-bologna-I can't even enter a password, it jumps right to the "forgot ID/Password" page.

Very frustrating!

Hey ugabooga - did you get a fix yet? I am having the same exact problem. Made two calls already to AT&T and no one has been able to help. Last call said I would get a call back in about an hour because my email has been down for so long. No one ever called.
