switch/upgrade from residenial to small biz
I am starting up my own biz at home and want to switch from residential service to small biz. I currently have a static IP address and port 25 is opened to me. I realize i'd have to get a different static IP address because att will probably put me on a different subnet. I talked to someone on the phone at att business and was told i can not keep the same phone number i've had for 23 years when switching from residential to small business. I'm not about to give up my phone number as i've had it as a landline then VoIP when i switched to u-verse. i can keep the same mobile number when switching mobile companies so how is it possible i can't keep the same number when just switching services with the same company?

updating the status of this because it isn't going well. It is so difficult to find the correct group you need to talk to when asking for anyting from att. So i mention Small Business many times and this person comes back with a speed of 100M for more than $800 a month. this is clearly not what att sells on their small business website. Still seeing if they can get me in contact with the correct department.

So AT&T really doesn't want to help. Still not able to find a way to keep my landline/voip when switching from residential to small business plan.

well it is getting close to 2 weeks without my phone number ported over to the new service. they say they are working on it but a week and a half and still not done? otherwise i'm happy with small business service. Port 25 was quickly opened when i emailed the dns-prov team and dns reverse PTR records seem to have been automatically generated once i updated my DNS A and AAAA records for IPv4 and shockingly IPv6.

Hi Kathy,
well it isn't completely done yet as they are still working on it. I am happy that i will be able to keep my phone number. I think AT&T has gone beyond the comfort zone of just saying no and found a way to make this happen. I will not be going to a competitor. Thanks for helping make this possible.
cheers,
m.
